Car body shops

how nega-stat® is used in optimized cleanroom apparel for car body shops

Car body shop entrances are maintained under positive pressure to prevent airborne contaminants from entering and settling on vehicle surfaces. Any particulate deposits on the car body can necessitate additional cleaning or even a respray, increasing time and costs.

Wearing the appropriate protective garments significantly reduces particle deposition. The most effective solution is lint-free polyester fabrics, which, depending on their design, can minimize particle transfer by up to 20 times compared to garments made from cotton or cotton blends.

However, polyester garments present two key challenges:

  • Comfort: Polyester-based barrier fabrics can be hot and uncomfortable, sometimes requiring workers to change garments as frequently as every hour in extreme conditions.
  • Static Charge: Polyester fabrics generate high levels of static electricity, which can attract airborne particles to the garment, increasing the risk of contamination. To mitigate this, such fabrics must incorporate conductive threads to prevent electrostatic attraction and particle transfer to the car body.

A major challenge with traditional antistatic garments is that their performance is fully effective only when both the garment and wearer are properly grounded – which is not always feasible within a car manufacturing facility.

nega-stat® Conductive Threads: Advanced Antistatic Protection

nega-stat® conductive threads feature a unique trilobal carbon core encased in a polyester sheath, offering exceptional and reliable antistatic performance. Unlike conventional antistatic fabrics, this innovative structure ensures consistent static dissipation and effective particle control even when full grounding is not possible.

By incorporating nega-stat® technology into protective apparel, car body shop workers benefit from enhanced comfort and superior electrostatic control, reducing contamination risks and improving overall production quality.

When standards fall short

Real-world safety beyond norms

Many safety standards for protective clothing, flooring, and other equipment are built upon a system of interconnected safety guidelines. This is the theory …

However, the reality of the workplace often diverges significantly, leading to safety gaps that existing standards cannot address. It is this very discrepancy that led to the development of nega-stat® P190. This product is designed for situations where the ideal conditions of a laboratory environment contrast sharply with the realities of the workplace. In these real-world scenarios, practical safety takes precedence over theoretical assumptions, helping to bridge genuine safety gaps.

nega-stat® is the only antistatic yarn globally that minimizes the risk of static charge in both earthed and unearthed conditions to such an extent that no damage can occur.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here, you’ll find answers to common questions about nega-stat® and its applications. Learn more about its anti-static properties, uses across industries, and benefits in ensuring safety and performance.

If you need further information, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Where is nega-stat® used?

nega-stat® antistatic fibers are used across various industries to enhance safety and prevent electrostatic discharge. In workwear, they provide protection in gas and oil, automotive, firefighting, police, and military sectors. Industrial applications include conveyor belts, filtration, ropes, harnesses, seating, hoses, and copier brushes.

In clean areas such as cleanrooms, car bodyshops, and battery cell production, nega-stat® helps maintain product integrity. It is also used in floor coverings, medical garments, and health applications, including asthma protection, pain relief, and sports performance. With its versatility, nega-stat® improves safety, hygiene, and comfort across multiple fields.

How is nega-stat® introduced into the base fabric?

Depending on the final application nega-stat® is introduced into the fabric in defined grids or stripes.

How is nega-stat® yarn designed?

nega-stat® contains a carbon conducting core which is embedded into a PES sheath.

What is the difference between nega-stat® P190 and nega-stat® P210?

nega-stat® P190 and P210 contain a unique trilobal carbon conducting core embedded into a PES sheath.

  • For nega-stat® P210, the three lobes of the unique trilobal conducting core are surface conducting – they get to the surface of each single filament at three very defined areas.
  • The unique trilobal conducting carbon core of nega-stat® P190 is fully surrounded by a PES sheath and no carbon is getting to the surface.

Is nega-stat® recyclable?

Fabrics containing nega-stat® can be mechanically recycled or if the base material is PES and contains nega-stat® such a material can be remelted.

Which norms does nega-stat® fulfill?

Fabrics and garments containing nega-stat® will perform to all international standards and relevant antistatic norms such as EN 61340, EN 1149/5 and JIS 1094.

Which counts are available?

nega-stat® is available in various counts to meet different application requirements. The nega-stat® P210 series includes 28 dtex f 3, 56 dtex f 6, and 112 dtex f 24, while nega-stat® P190 is available in 39 dtex f 6, 78 dtex f 12, and 156 dtex f 24. The nega-stat® DP 40 variant comes in 20 dtex f 4. Additionally, white and dyeable nega-stat® options are offered in 28 dtex f 3 and 28 dtex f 4.

Is nega-stat® dyeable?

Yes. Aside the black non dyeable qualities nega-stat® P190, P210 and DP40, we are in the position to provide a range of white disperse dyeable as well as white cationic dyeable solutions.

Has nega-stat® to be grounded?

No. Usually any fabric/garment containing an antistatic component has to be fully grounded at any time. In areas where a full grounding will be not possible or not practicable fabrics and garments containing the core conductor nega-stat® P190 will provide full antistatic protection.

How does nega-stat® perform in wash and wear?

The outer PES sheath of nega-stat® provides exceptional durability to wear, washing, sterilization and chemical attack.

Is nega-stat® sustainable?

Yes. Fabrics and garments containing nega-stat® P190 or P210 can be fully recycled.

How does nega-stat® P190 work?

Under full grounding conditions fabrics containing nega-stat® P190 operate by 2 main mechanisms – induction and conduction.

Where full grounding is not possible the unique trilobal core induces a corona discharge.

Is there a recycling version of nega-stat®?

nega-stat® is available in a recycled version where the conducting carbon core is embedded into a recycled PES sheath.
